Weighted mean in Desmos on the ACT

October 14, 2026 · 5 min read

Put values in x₁ and frequencies in y₁, then type total(x₁ * y₁) / total(y₁). That is a weighted mean, and it is also expected value. Statistics functions as a set are in Desmos statistics functions.

Table, then one line

Do not multiply each pair on scratch if the table will do it. Population standard deviation is a different leftover, in stdevp. Mean of an unweighted list is in mean, median, and mode.

The bottom line

total(x₁ * y₁) / total(y₁). Frequencies in the second column.
