Zoom when a Desmos graph is missing

October 4, 2026 · 5 min read

If Desmos looks empty, the graph is usually off the window. Zoom out or reset the axes before you decide the equation has no graph. The tool is covered in Desmos on the ACT.

Zoom first

Use the minus control, or pinch if the device allows it, until the curve enters the window. You can also open the wrench and set a wider axis range. A circle with a large radius, or a line whose intercept is far from the origin, often starts invisible. Graphing that circle is in graphing a circle in Desmos.

This is not the magnifier

Zooming the coordinate plane is inside Desmos. The magnifier that enlarges the whole item is a separate test tool, in the digital magnifier. A graph that is simply hard to read at the default scale is still a window problem, not a missing equation. The other tools on the screen are in digital ACT tools.

The bottom line

An empty grid is a window problem until you zoom out and prove otherwise.
