Strikethrough on the digital ACT

October 8, 2026 · 5 min read

Strikethrough marks a phrase in the passage as used or discarded. It is not the same as eliminating an answer choice. Cross off choices with the eliminator, in the answer eliminator.

Passage marks versus choice marks

Strike a clause you already used on a line-reference item so you do not reuse it. Highlighting keeps the locator visible, in the highlighter.

Layout of passage and question is in passage and question layout. Flagging is in flagging questions.

The bottom line

Strike used passage text. Eliminate on the choices, not on the passage.
