Georgia HOPE Scholarship and the ACT

Georgia HOPE is mostly a GPA program. The ACT matters more for Zell Miller—the higher award that adds a test-score bar on top of a stricter HOPE GPA. USG campuses also require or expect SAT/ACT for admissions in recent cycles, so the score still does two jobs: get in, then maybe unlock Zell.

HOPE vs Zell Miller

  • HOPE Scholarship: Georgia-resident merit at eligible colleges, driven mainly by HOPE GPA and coursework—not a high ACT.
  • Zell Miller: larger award; adds a published SAT or ACT minimum on top of a higher GPA.

Admissions vs scholarship

Clearing Zell does not admit you, and a UGA/Georgia Tech middle 50% is usually higher than the Zell line. Use both numbers. Average scores by college, colleges that require SAT or ACT.

If you are one point short of Zell

Look up this year's Zell Miller ACT number on GAfutures. Use HOPE GPA as the everyday requirement. Do not confuse either with a Tech middle-50%.
