QuestBridge and the ACT

October 2, 2026 · 6 min read

QuestBridge National College Match has its own testing window and score-reporting rules, and they change by year. Treat the current QuestBridge application as the source of truth, then pick an ACT date that posts before their deadline—not before your EA list. A strong Composite still helps at Match partners that read scores; some partners are test-optional.

Pick the date for Match, not for October generally

National College Match deadlines sit in early fall. A September ACT is the usual last national date that still posts in time; July is safer if you already have a plan. Work backward: last-chance retake timing.

How scores usually enter the file

Many recent cycles have let students self-report on the QuestBridge application, with official reports later for finalists or enrollment. That is the same split as the Common App: how to self-report. Official sends: how to send scores.

Money and registration

If you qualify for an ACT fee waiver, use it for the sitting itself. QuestBridge eligibility and ACT fee-waiver eligibility overlap often but are not identical. ACT fee waiver guide.

What score to aim at

Match partners are highly selective. Look at each partner's middle 50%, not a single QuestBridge cutoff. Some partners will read a 32 as typical; others remain test-optional. Ivy-range context: ACT scores for the Ivy League.

The bottom line

Read this year's QuestBridge testing page first. Sit early enough for scores to post, self-report if they allow it, and aim at partner ranges—not a rumor of a single cutoff.
