Why ACT scores get delayed

October 2, 2026 · 6 min read

Multiple-choice ACT scores often start posting about two weeks after the Saturday test, in batches. A delay of a few days is common. A delay of several weeks usually means a hold, a mismatch, Writing still scoring, or an irregularity review. Check MyACT before you assume the score vanished.

Ordinary delays (wait a week)

  • Your batch simply has not posted yet.
  • You sat Writing; the essay score trails the multiple-choice.
  • The center's materials arrived late.

Refresh MyACT on the published days. Do not re-register just because Tuesday was quiet.

Holds you should actually chase

  • Name, date of birth, or photo does not match registration. Photo requirements.
  • An unpaid balance on the account.
  • A random scoring audit or a reported irregularity at the center.

Log into MyACT for a status note. If nothing appears after the last published date, contact ACT with your ACT ID. Keep registration emails.

If a deadline is close

Self-report the unofficial multiple-choice score on the Common App if the college allows it, and order the official send the hour the report posts. Rush is only useful after a score exists: rush ACT scores. If the sitting may miss EA/ED entirely, read last-chance retake timing.

Do not void a future date in panic

A hold is not a cancelled score. Wait for the investigation or the match fix. If ACT later cancels the sitting, they will say so. Until then, keep preparing for the next date you already planned: should you retake.

The bottom line

A few extra days is normal. Past the published window, look for a hold, fix the mismatch, and only then pay for rush or a new sitting.
