Best-illustration questions on ACT English

October 7, 2026 · 5 min read

Best illustration means the choice that gives a concrete example of the claim in that sentence, not a restatement and not a new topic. Author-intent as a set is in author intent.

Example, not echo

If the sentence says the town restored several buildings, the illustration names a building and what was done. A choice that repeats “the town valued history” is a summary, not an illustration. Add or delete is a neighbor, in add and delete questions.

Least acceptable is the opposite hunt, in least acceptable questions. Question types are in English question types.

The bottom line

Pick the specific example of the nearby claim. Vague restatements lose.
