Inference questions on ACT Science

A Science inference still has to sit on the data. Combine two figures, or say what a new point would do, without importing class knowledge. Previous-knowledge traps are in the science you actually need.

One step past the point

If Table 1 and Figure 2 both mention species B, the inference is the overlap. If the question adds a fact that was not in the passage, that is new information, in new-information questions.

Pattern items stay inside one trend, in pattern questions. Reading inferences use the same “one step, still in the text” idea, in Reading inference questions.

The bottom line

Combine what is printed. Do not add a fact from chemistry class.
