When a Science question has no locator

October 6, 2026 · 5 min read

If a Science question does not name a figure, table, or experiment, the answer is usually in the introduction or in a caption, not in a random graph. Named figures still come first. That habit is in go to the named figure.

No locator, then prose

Definitions, units, what was held constant, and why a method was used live in the opening paragraph. That is when you stop skipping the intro, in skipping the intro first.

Factual questions that still sit on a sentence are in factual questions. Data-representation passages are still mostly locators, in data representation.

The bottom line

Named visual: go there. No name: read the intro.
