Writer's-goal items tell you the mission in the stem. Match that mission. A true sentence that does a different job is wrong. This is narrower than author intent as a whole, in author intent.
Underline the goal words
Emphasize, qualify, introduce, conclude, provide a contrast: those words are the test. Intro and conclusion sentences are a common home for this, in intro and conclusion sentences.

The bottom line
The stem is the rubric. True but off-mission is the trap.
