Registration & Test Day

School-day ACT vs Saturday ACT

October 1, 2026 · 7 min read

A school-day ACT is the same enhanced exam, usually cheaper or free, given during class hours at your high school. A Saturday national test is the date you pick, pay for, and use if you need a different timing, a retake, or a score report the school-day sitting does not give you. Many students take both: state/district in the spring, Saturday if they still need a higher Composite.

Cost and registration

School-day is often paid by the state or district. You still complete whatever form the school uses. Saturday national dates go through MyACT and use published fees (plus late or change fees). How much the ACT costs, how to register.

Where you sit

School-day: your building, familiar desks, usually classmates around you. Saturday: a test center that may be another school. Noise and commute matter. Where you should take the ACT, digital or paper.

Do you still need a Saturday date?

  • You want a retake before EA/ED or regular decision. Last-chance retake.
  • School-day falls on a conflict (AP, sports championship, illness).
  • You need Science or Writing and the school-day battery omits it.
  • You want more control over score sending. Sending scores.

Score reports

School-day scores still go to MyACT. Colleges treat them as official ACT scores. Some districts also share results with the school for accountability. If you are worried about a low first sit, know your college's superscore and all-scores rules: how superscoring works.

The bottom line

Take the free or cheap school-day test if it is offered. Add a Saturday national date only when you need another shot, a missing section, or a better calendar fit.
