Should you take the October ACT?

October 2, 2026 · 5 min read

Take the October ACT if it is the last national date that still posts before your Early Action or Early Decision score deadline. Skip it if September already produced the number, or if October scores will arrive too late for that campus. October is the squeeze date, not a casual extra look.

October is a good fit when

  • September was a miss or a no-show.
  • Practice is 2+ points above the last official.
  • You are running a senior fall plan: senior-year study plan.

October is a weak fit when

  • The college will not accept an October send for EA/ED. Use December for RD instead: December ACT.
  • Essays are unfinished and the score is already enough.

The bottom line

October is the last realistic early-deadline sitting for many seniors. Treat it like a deadline, or leave it for students who still need the number.

Start practicing

Start with a free diagnostic, then drill your weak spots with 15-question quizzes and track how you're doing across Reading, English, and Math. Compare plans whenever you're ready to go further.
