Registration & Test Day

Should you take the September ACT?

October 2, 2026 · 5 min read

Take the September ACT if you are a rising senior who prepped in August and still needs a score in Early Action or Early Decision files. Skip it as a first-ever sitting you have not practiced under enhanced clocks. September is the first national date of the school year, not a warm-up.

September is a good fit when

  • You used summer well: summer study plan.
  • EA/ED is on the list: EA vs ED.
  • You already have a spring score and practice is higher.

September is a weak fit when

  • School just started and you have not taken a timed core test.
  • October is still early enough for every deadline you have.
  • You are a junior with no application clock. Use the junior-year timeline.

The bottom line

September is for prepared seniors. It is a poor diagnostic and a strong last comfortable date before many early deadlines.

Start practicing

Start with a free diagnostic, then drill your weak spots with 15-question quizzes and track how you're doing across Reading, English, and Math. Compare plans whenever you're ready to go further.
