The ACT is a standardized college admissions test that measures English, Math, and Reading skills (with optional Science and Writing), scored on a 1–36 scale, accepted by virtually all U.S. colleges. What the ACT measures
- English (35 min, 50 questions): grammar, punctuation, and rhetorical editing in context.
- Math (50 min, 45 questions): algebra, geometry, and some trigonometry—calculator allowed.
- Reading (40 min, 36 questions): four passages with comprehension questions.
- Science (optional, 40 min, 40 questions): data interpretation, not a memorized science quiz.
- Writing (optional, 40 min): one essay, scored separately.
How scoring works

Who takes it and when
