ACT Math covers pre-algebra, elementary and intermediate algebra, plane and coordinate geometry, and a small amount of trigonometry, with algebra and geometry making up the majority of questions. Knowing the breakdown helps you focus your study time where it counts.
Algebra (the largest share)
Linear equations, inequalities, systems, exponents, quadratics, and functions appear throughout. Algebra is the backbone of the section; see how much algebra is on the ACT.
Geometry
Lines, angles, triangles, circles, area, volume, and coordinate geometry. Many questions require memorized formulas the ACT doesn't provide, with details in how much geometry is on the ACT.
Pre-algebra and number sense
Fractions, percentages, ratios, averages, and basic statistics. These are usually earlier, easier questions, so grab them quickly and save time for harder problems.
Trigonometry
A handful of questions cover SOHCAHTOA, the unit circle basics, and trig identities. You don't need deep trig, but you can't skip it if you want a top score.
Statistics and probability
Expect mean, median, mode, range, basic probability, and reading data from tables and charts. These overlap with skills you'll use elsewhere on the test.
Prioritize by frequency and weakness
