Why there's no February ACT in New York

October 2, 2026 · 5 min read

New York typically has no February ACT because of the state's Truth in Testing rules: ACT would have to release the questions and answers for that form, and February has long been the date they skip in NY. Juniors in New York should plan around April, June, July, and the fall dates instead.

What to sit instead

  • April if you want a junior-spring official and a fall retake.
  • June if May APs ate April.
  • July or September if you need a score before EA/ED. July ACT.

Do not drive out of state just for February

A Saturday in a neighboring state can work, but you add travel, weather, and a center you have never seen. A later NY date with real prep is usually better: when to take the ACT.

School-day testing

Some NY districts run a school-day ACT. That can replace a missing February. School-day vs Saturday.

The bottom line

February is the NY gap, not a personal slight. Build the junior calendar on April–October and ignore February unless ACT adds it back.
