Most national ACT test centers open doors around 8:00 AM for check-in, testing begins shortly after (often 8:30 or 9:00 AM—confirm on your admission ticket), and you finish between roughly 12:30 PM and 2:00 PM depending on optional Science and Writing sections. Typical test-day timeline
- 7:45–8:15 AM: arrive, check in with ticket and photo ID, find your room
- ~8:30–9:00 AM: instructions, begin English
- After English: short break, then Math, break, Reading
- If taking Science: 40-minute Science section after Reading
- If taking Writing: 40-minute essay after Science (or after Reading if you skipped Science)

- Core only (English, Math, Reading): often around 12:30–1:00 PM, plus check-in time before
- Core + Science: often around 1:15–1:45 PM
- Core + Science + Writing: often around 2:00–2:30 PM

When you can leave
You must stay for the sections you registered for. If you registered for Writing, you cannot leave after Reading—even if you decide not to write the essay, you must remain through the section per ACT rules. See ACT rules and regulations.
